‘Lady Blunt’ Stradivarius sold for $15,894,000

A world record was set in London today for the sale of the Lady Blunt Stradivarius violin. Tarisio auction house has yet to disclose the winner, but I’ll be damned if violinist Anne Akiko Meyers added yet another Strad to her instrument portfolio. But seriously, this was quite an event for both the fine violin trade and philanthropy alike. One-hundred percent of the amount raised for the instrument will benefit the relief efforts of the devastating March 2011 Tsunami in northern Japan.
