Strads aplenty at Tarisio

This post originally appeared on the ‘fiddlefish.com’ blog. It’s here for archival purposes only.

I was under the impression that Strads don’t come to market too often. The violin clearing-house mecca Tarsio, here in New York City, seems to have proven me wrong. In the short span of 15 months, they have auctioned three (including the impecible and important Lady Blunt Stradivarius).

Here, now, they have announced the sale of a young Golden Period Strad named Baron von der Leyen. The back of this fiddle is truly striking. It would be nice to see this in the hands of first-rate concert artist.
